UFOs in the Bible
Several passages in the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, have been viewed by many ufologists to support the theory that there are descriptions of sightings or encounters with UFOs with the holy book.
For example:
The Book of Exodus - Scholars date the Exodus at about the 14th century BCE. In Exodus Chapter 13, verses 21 - 22, as Moses leads the children of Israel out of Egypt toward Mount Sanai and the Promise Land, '.... the Lord went before them by day in a pilar cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pilar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night.' This, according to Brinsley le Poer Trench, is 'a wonderful description of a modern flying saucer.
Second Book of Kings - In Chapter 2, the prophet Elijah - who lived around 900 BCE - crosses the River Jordan with his son Elisha; in verse 11, 'it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.' This is seen by some commentators as a description of the prophet being taken aboard a flying saucer.
Book of Ezekiel - This Hebrew prophet was a captive of Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, and was transported to Mesopotamia (Iraq) in 597 BCE. On four occasions he had visions that some writers think were of extraterrestrial spaceships. These are recounted in Chapters 1, 8, 10, and 43. The first description reads in part as follows: 'A whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the mist thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire.' From this, Joseph F. Blumrich, a senior executive at NASA's Marshall Spaceflight Center, reconstructed the 'spacecraft' Ezekiel saw: according to Blumrich, it was an elaborate device like a quadruple helicopter.
Erich von Daniken, the world most famous UFO author and believer, wrote several passages in his book Chariots of the Gods? concerning UFO sightings and the Bible. Von Daniken's most interesting claim comes from the book of Genesis, in which he claims Chapter 6: verses 2-4, 'sons of God' who came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them...' serves as proof that mating took place between aliens and Earthwomen.
Similarly George Adamski, former lecturer on Unidentified Flying Objects, space travel, Cosmic Philosophy, and the Universal Laws of Life, make several controversial interpretations of the Bible also. According to Adamski, in Ezekiel Chapter 1: 18, he says '...describes the high ring around the dome and even goes so far as to describe four portholes. These verses [1: 16 and 18] are very accurate description of the three ball landing gear type of saucer as seen through the eyes of Ezekiel.'
Ezekiel (1: 16-18): The wheels sparkled like topaz, and they were all alike: in form and working they were like a wheel inside a wheel, and when they moved in any of the four directions they never swerved their course. All four had hubs and each hub had a projection which had the power of sight, and the rims of the wheels were full of eyes all around.
Ezekiel (1:28): I saw what looked like fire with encircling radiance. Like a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day was the sight of that encircling radiance; it was like the appearance of the glory of the Lord.
