Tsunami Uncovers

Lost Indian Atlantis

A lost city discovered three years ago by a British – Indian Expedition under the sea near the South Coast of India has become visible for the first time in 1500 years.

The expedition in 2002 investigated an area of the South Coast of India due to local fishermen claiming that their nets kept being caught on strange underwater ruins. This expedition found what were thought to be man made structures under the water, and attributed these to be the remains of a lost city called the Seven Pagodas.

The city itself is said to date back to the Pallava Dynasty of Hindu Kings, which was said to have ruled the area up until the 9 th Century. The size of the ruins is unconfirmed, but locals believe it goes on for acres and acres.

Due to the Boxing Day Tsunami the sands have been removed from this area and exposed relics beneath the sea, which include two granite lions. The Indian Navy has now investigated the site since the Tsunami and confirmed its discovery. It lies about 800ft from the shoreline and around 80ft under the sea.

The city was believed to have disappeared due to erosion, but now a natural disaster has unearthed it once again after 1500 years of being hidden.

It is said that excavations will begin on the site in April of this year.
