BELTANE

Sex festival. Have your attention yet? Yes, Beltane’s common name is May Eve, and even more common; sex festival. The reason for this is because on Beltane there is such an emphasis on fertility, the coming together of man and woman, sensuality, and simple delight. For those who aren’t pagans but do have emotional or mental
problems, it has been proven that to even them, this day is a happy delightful day. And no, this is not a good excuse to get laid or get your lover/spouse in bed. Beltane is also the stereotypical image of pagans, dancing naked under the moonlight, twirling ribbons around the pole, laughter and flirting. This is the time that “spring
fever” enters the air.

I guess you could say this is the pagan’s Valentine Day, for the best way to celebrate this sacred day, is by interacting with people. Make sure the plant you planted on Méan Earraigh is transplanted into the ground. Another favorite thing of pagans to do seems very sexual but in fact is not, is to softly rub one another’s charkas.
When your hand charka touches another person’s charka, it can release a soothing feeling and some tension, but like I said, most take this in a sexual four playing way (you have to excuse one track minded people). Some people also like to blindfold themselves in their own private room or area and light candles and incense and let
their senses get the best of them.

This festival is really up to you how you want to celebrate it. You can either plant the seedling or now a plant and go meditate in your room all day, or you can go out and celebrate with your friends. There us really no determined thing you have to recognize or have to make sure you do, well except transplanting. Beltane truly is
a free festival. Just remember, it is a sacred day, so anything that dulls the mind or senses is highly forbidden, except one cup of coffee in the morning.

Also, this a good time to call upon the Sidhe and the nymphs. They come out from the ground, trees, rocks, etc... Where they have been hiding all winter long. If you see anything flash silver like a single piece of glitter floating in the air, that is a sign of the Sidhe, and nymphs you can usually see blurs of them as they prance, dance and run, and can hear their laughter.

Beltane is basically a free festival to loosen tension and be happy. You don’t have to concentrate on this day, nothing. Just transplant the seed and enjoy the day any way you like. This festival was given to us from Mother Earth to lift our spirits after the long hard winter and tough work of beginning our spring crops.

Beltane for those who need a fresh start

There is a side to Beltane that most don’t really know of, hence not celebrate. Beltane usually brings good weather, sweet winds, and a new start. Yes, true, Spring Equinox is rebirth and we rid ourselves of bad habits, but Beltane is kind of like the innocent young sister of Mother Earth, who goes up to the most tired, most beaten
old man, and makes him smile. If you are weary and dreary, in need of motivation and some new fresh air, this day is for you. Spend some time with candles burning and incense, and pray to the gods and goddesses. Tell them of your troubles and than walk outside and kiss the ground. Granted don’t go smooching on sand and
topsoil, try to find a grassy area (cause no god is worth sucking dirt in your mouth). Spend as much time as you can outside, (and for colder areas, its always okay to bring blankets with to stay warm), the weather should at least make you feel a bit better. Also, if you are around newborn animals or young animals, stay b y them too.
Animals seem to be more sensitive to humans and their emotions on this day. If you work anywhere there is sick people, unstable, etc...Try to open the window for them. Mother Earth is a very kind and forgiving, and caring person, she is quick to heal your aching soul.

Another suggestion is, listen to Enya, music with out words, like movie soundtracks, folk music, etc...Or even those cd’s with nature sounds. That should ease your mind put you into a spiritual mindset, but than, you won’t hear the wind or the trees talk to you, so it’s your choice.
