Bardic Triads of Wisdom
Three eternal foundations of ethics: Love to man, justice to all, and obedience to the laws of humanity.
Of three things come Wisdom: Of Truth, of Meditation, and of Suffering.
Three ways of searching the heart of man: In the thing he suspects not, in the manner he suspects not, and at an unexpected time.
Three things which, when well understood, give Peace: The tendencies of Nature, the claims of Justice, and the voice of Truth.
Three sources of cheap delight to those who love not the Highest: To witness strife, to see a monstrosity, and the pomposity of pride.
Three chief ends of Knowledge: Duty, Utility, and Decorum.
Three sorts of men whom all should regard benignantly: The Optimist, who hopefully contemplates the face of the earth; the Thinker, who delights in rational accomplishments; and the Benevolent, who looks lovingly upon little children.
Three sorts of men who love not their country: The Glutton, who indulgeth his belly; the Miser, who adoreth riches; and the Idler, who loveth ease.
Three laughs of a fool: At that which is good, at that which is bad, and at what he himself knows not.
Three things corrupt the world: Pomposity of pride, a sense of superiority, and the love of indolence.
Three places where most of Goodness is to be found: Where it is most sought for, where it is most loved, and where there is least of self.
There are three sorts of lies: The spoken lie, the silent lie, and the lie of false action; and each intended to decieve.
Three things secure friendship: Affability, Honesty, and Genius.
Three things elicit approbation: Amiable conduct, knowledge of the sciences, and integrity of character.
Three faithful witnesses to human goodness: Self-denial, liberality, and the encouragement of all that is noble and true.
Three things to love: Courage, Gentleness, and Affection.
Three things to admire: Intellect, dignity, and gracefulness.
Three things to hate: Cruelty, arrogance, and ingratitude.
Three things to delight in: Beauty, frankness, and freedom.
Three things to like: Cordiality, cheerfulness, and humour.
Three things to avoid: Idleness, loquacity, and jesting.
Three good things to cultivate: Good friends, good thoughts, and good humour.
Three things to contend for: Honour, country, and friends.
Three things to govern: Temper, tongue, and conduct.
